易混词辨析
weaken、thin、dilute
1.weaken（动词）：“削弱；使变弱”（如 weaken the argument；weaken the force），侧重 “抽象力量或观点变弱”，dilute 侧重 “液体稀释或浓度降低”；
2. thin（形容词 / 动词）：“薄的；使变薄”（如 thin paper；thin the soup），侧重 “厚度或密度变小”，dilute 是 “液体中加入溶剂使浓度降低”；
3. dilute（动词 / 形容词）：“稀释；稀释的；淡化的”（如 dilute the acid；dilute solution；dilute the impact），可指 “淡化抽象影响（如 dilute the risk 降低风险）”，weaken/thin 无此义；

词源词缀
di-，分开，散开，来自dis-变体。-lut，流，注入，词源同lava，deluge.即流散，稀释。di-分离，分开+-lut-洗+-e动词词尾=前缀di-表“分离，分开”，相当于前缀dis-；词根lut表“冲洗”所以这个词字面义为“经冲洗而分开、分解”，词义引申为“稀释，冲淡”。有学者推断lotus（莲花）是同根词，词根lot也是“冲洗”，这很好理解，因为莲花“濯清涟而不妖”嘛。
